Born in Brooklyn NY, Eric began studying piano, accordion and saxophone at the age of six. After high school he attended Berklee College of Music on a Scholarship from Downbeat Magazine. After College he studied under the renowned piano teacher, Charlie Banacos. Eric performed as a Principal Musician in the MGM Film “Fame,”. Other credits include: Eric is the Composer of the original theme for “The World” BBC/PRI/WGBH; He received an Emmy Nomination for Best Score for a Documentary. He received a Grammy Nomination as Keyboardist with Steve Vai for Best Instrumental Rock Performance. Additionally, he was Principal Keyboardist in “Tribute to Fire Sign Theater,” starring: John Goodman,Todd Rundgren, Chloe Webb, George Wendt, Howard Hesseman, and Rufus Wainwright.
Eric has performed/toured/recorded with: Steve Vai, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Tom and Bruce Fowler, Bob Moses, Don Alias, Lew Soloff, and Bobby Hebb. He has composed and produced music for catalogues of multimedia formats for educational societies and national TV and radio spots; clients have included: The Annenberg Foundation, Tom Snyder Productions, Time Warner Cable, CBS, Ford, Nextel, PBS, Comcast, POV TV, New England Aquarium, Fidelity, and Simon & Schuster. In 2015 Eric was commissioned to compose a revision of “Theme For The World”, 18 years after it’s original creation. He has served as President and Creative Director of the music production/sound company Audiodrome Inc., led the Eric Goldberg Trio, and was an original member of The World Premier Band.
Eric has been teaching at The Real School of Music since 2013 and currently holds the titles of: Director of Piano Instruction and Associate Director of Education. His students participate in the highest level ensembles in and out of Real School and have gone on to pursue successful careers in music and beyond!
Eric is also the Assistant Director of Education.
