Band opportunities for beginners through seasoned players

We mean it when we say music is for everyone, and so is playing in a band with other students – and it is so much fun! If you’ve been taking music lessons for at least six months, you just might be ready to join a band to play some of your favorite song with other students just like you. Let’s be real – most people who learn to play an instrument don’t want to just sit at home and play alone. Our Ensemble program is designed to help you make music you love, meet some new friends and grow your talent under the guidance of experienced performing musicians.

So, what should you be looking for to know if you might be ready to join an ensemble? Here are some things we look for:

• Typically at least 6 months of music at Real School or with another instructor
• Know a handful of basic chords
• Ability to play in 4-time and keep a rhythm
• Passion in music – you have favorite bands, artists, singers and musicians that you really look up to

Bands are made up of 4-5 students of similar age, skill level and musical interests who commit to one-hour weekly rehearsals in an instructor-led and supportive environment, learning how to play within a context of a band. You will get to experience the real world of music, growing your skills as a musician but also expanding your skillset to play with other people and instruments. Each session, you will prepare a 3-4 song cover set to perform onstage for your friends and family at the end of the session with other performance opportunities when available.
