About The Role

The Real School of Music is seeking a qualified, passionate candidate to join our Yamaha Music Education Faculty. The objective of the Yamaha System is to develop each student’s comprehensive musical ability in an environment that inspires a lifelong love of music.

The teaching load includes a mix of private lessons and group (YMES) classes. This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator looking to grow within a program that has produced successful musicians and music lovers worldwide. The position offers potential for full-time growth and strong income potential.

Schedule

  • Training/Observation/ private teaching: Fall 2026
  • Yamaha Teaching Start: Spring 2027
  • Weekly Schedule: Weekday afternoons/evenings, and/or weekends based on interest and availability.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in music (preferably in piano performance and/or music education). Advanced degrees in piano, composition, or other instruments with advanced piano skills, as well as curriculum development experience, are highly advantageous.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of professional teaching experience with students ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Musical Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate comprehensive ability in piano performance, keyboard harmony, sight-reading, sight-singing, ear training, transposition, improvisation, and theory.
  • Piano Required Repertoire: Candidates should possess an early advanced repertoire in either classical music or Jazz performance. Appropriate repertoire examples include, but are not limited to, J.S Bach Inventions or selections from his French Suites, L. van Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas No. 1 or no. 5, C. Debussy’s Arabesques no.1 or 2. Alternatively, candidates may perform a jazz standard ballad or an original arrangement of a standard tune.
  • Certification: Must be willing to undergo training and successfully pass the Yamaha Grade Examination Level 5 (Teachers’ Exams) after 3 years of teaching (http://www.yamaha-mf.or.jp/english/grade/).
  • Professionalism:
    • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Must be willing to participate in faculty showcases, external events, and student recitals.
    • Must prioritize a career in music education.
    • Notable experience as a live performer is a plus.
  • Logistics:
    • Eligible to work in the U.S.
    • Reliable transportation for commuting between our Burlington and Andover locations.
